The Project (Yet to be named)
I was in the Air Force, stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. We had just purchased our first home, in Eagle River, a Northern suburb. During the cold, dark winters, I passed the time with video games on my shiny new 386x computer. Everything was mail order, and I'd check the mailbox on the way home each day, never knowing when a game might be showing up.
Being used to turn based war games, the "Real Time" aspect of Command HQ took some getting used to, but before long, I was hooked. As life went on, we owned and ran a biofeedback software company called "Wild Divine" until we sold it in 2016. The year 2017 was taken up as my Mother-in-Law neared the end, and I wrote a book, "The Anasazi of Chaco Canyon". And 2018 was consumed by an attempted through hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, which ended about the halfway point due to balky and arthritic feet.
I've toyed with the idea of trying to resurrect Command HQ on modern systems, with modern graphics over the years, but never took it too seriously until recently. I tracked down Dan Bunten's daughter Melanie to see if I could buy the rights, or at least access the source code, but the rights had long since been sold off. When I finally contacted the current owners of the IP, they told me the source code had been lost.
After a round of discussion, we've pulled the trigger, and finally decided to "Make it So".
